Wow, this really captures the emotional vertigo that living in this country is like. Thanks for writing, Jesus.

Sometimes it's easy to have knee-jerk reaction to the daily horrible news by choosing to leave the U.S. As someone who is joining the medical field, I am privileged to have more options if I were to immigrate to another country.

Yet, its not as easy a choice as many people seem to think.

For me, the U.S. is the only home that I have ever had. There are many things I despise about it. There are many things are I just want to burn down. Yet, my family and my friends who have become family live here. The people in the communities I have slowly built a relationship with are all here. In all likelihood if I were to leave, they would still be here. If I truly wish to flee this collapsing nation, I cannot bear to think of all those who would be left behind.

This just shows how much I cannot fathom how many immigrants feel. The choice to leave one's country, permanently for some, is not one made lightly. I hope that when people have these feelings of leaving the U.S., they gain more understanding and empathy towards those who are trying to enter as well.
